Speaker Bio
Dr. Tanzina Ahmed (she/her) is an Associate Professor of Psychology at Kingsborough Community College, CUNY. She graduated from the Developmental Psychology program at The University and Graduate Center of CUNY in the Fall of 2017 and served as an adjunct assistant professor and full-time substitute lecturer at Bronx Community College, CUNY, from the Spring of 2011 to the Spring of 2018. Dr. Ahmed’s research focuses on understanding how ethnically, culturally, and socioeconomically diverse college students navigate issues of academic achievement, food and housing insecurity, and physical/mental health at home and on the college campus. Her work seeks to advance psychology’s understanding of how underrepresented people shape their development, even as they grapple with being socially and economically disadvantaged within the larger culture. Ultimately, she strives to support and empower people who are often seen as the disadvantaged and disregarded “other” in American society.
