Speaker Bio
Jessica Murray is Director of Digital Communications for Transformative Learning in the Humanities, bringing a background in design and accessibility to her role. In collaboration with colleagues from CUNY, NYPL, and Columbia Teachers College, she is developing a website about the long struggle against segregation in New York City schools on the basis of race and disability. She is also working to establish the New York City Disability Rights Archive at the College of Staten Island. Murray earned her Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology at The Graduate Center, CUNY in 2020. Her dissertation, Self-Determination in Transportation: the Route to Social Inclusion for People with Disabilities explores the psychological impact of social, emotional, and physical barriers that disabled people encounter in transportation environments, and advocates for change through chairing an advisory committee on transit accessibility to the MTA. Her advocacy and research are featured in the 2021 film, The Biggest Obstacle.
