Cecilia M. Espinosa, Ph.D. is a Professor in the Early Childhood/Childhood Department at CUNY Lehman College. Cecilia was a bilingual multiage classroom teacher-researcher for over a decade before she completed her doctorate at Arizona State University, Tempe Campus. Her current research focuses on translanguaging as a theoretical and pedagogical stance that builds on the strengths of bi/multilingual students. Another of her research interests is children’s literacies and literature that affirms and expands their identities as composers and critical readers of texts. Cecilia is the Chair of the NCTE Huck Award Committee for Outstanding Fiction for Children. Cecilia co-authored the book (2021) Rooted in Strength: Using Translanguaging to Grow Multilingual Readers and Writers (with Ascenzi-Moreno). Cecilia has published in national and international journals in Spanish and English. She is an Associate Investigator for the Project CUNY IIE, which focuses on the intersection of immigration and education.
