Audition to Perform the National Anthem

All students at the CUNY School of Professional Studies are invited to apply to perform the National Anthem for the upcoming 2026 CUNY SPS Commencement ceremony.
This is a unique opportunity to play an active role in the ceremony celebrating the Class of 2026.
Applications must include a short answer (100-150 words) about your experience as a vocalist, as well as a video audition of yourself singing the National Anthem. So that we can fairly review all submitted videos, your recording must be done in one continuous take, without additional vocal filters or effects. Instrumental accompaniment is permitted.
The National Anthem performer selection process consists of several milestones, outlined in the next tabs. Please be sure to read through the timeline before submitting your audition.
To apply, you must be a current CUNY SPS student, or a member of the graduating class of 2026.
You must also commit to attending the ceremony in person in Spring 2026.
- Response to short answer questions about your experience as a vocalist.
- Video audition of you singing the United States National Anthem.
- The performance must be one continuous take.
- Vocal effects or filters are not permitted.
- Instrumental accompaniment is permitted.
The selection committee for the student vocalist consists of members of the School’s administration. The committee will review all submitted applications and supporting materials carefully to ensure they meet the eligibility requirements starting March 17th.
After deliberation, the committee will select the student who they feel delivered the best audition to perform at the Spring 2026 ceremony. All applicants will be notified of the committee’s decision, whether selected or not, via email by March 31st.

Preparation: During this time, the Performer will work with a professional vocal coach (2-3 sessions) provided by the School. Sessions will be arranged at a mutually convenient time. |

If selected, the vocalist will work with members of the School to make arrangements in preparation for the performance. To support their readiness, the student will be provided with up to three sessions with a professional vocal coach. These sessions are designed to help the performer refine their piece and feel confident for the ceremony.
