Dr. Nausheen Pasha-Zaidi: Working with International & Marginalized Populations

The CUNY SPS Psychology Program’s Day in the Life series provides students with an opportunity to learn about, and speak directly with, those actively working in various subdisciplines in Psychology.
Dr. Nausheen Pasha-Zaidi, international educator and noted author, is our first featured speaker for the spring semester. Dr. Pasha-Zaidi holds a PhD in International Organizations and Systems; she also holds a MEd in Educational Psychology, an MEd in Language Education, and a BA in Speech Communications.
During this event, Dr. Pasha-Zaidi will discuss her path to Psychology, past and current positions, and how it all ties to the broader fields of I/O and Educational Psychology. This talk will be 30-40 minutes, with a 20-30-minute Q & A to follow.
All CUNY students are welcome to attend. Students interested in Industrial/Organizational Psychology and Educational Psychology will find this of particular interest.
About the Speaker
Nausheen Pasha-Zaidi, PhD, has worked with international and marginalized populations for over 20 years. She has degrees in Communications, Education, and Psychology and has co-edited three books addressing international Muslim populations (Mirror on the Veil, CCC Press; An Introduction to Psychology in the Middle East (And Beyond), Cambridge Scholars; and Positive Psychology in the Middle East/North Africa, Springer). Her latest edited book (Toward a Positive Psychology of Islam and Muslims, Springer Cross-Cultural Advancements in Positive Psychology series) looks at Muslim individuals and communities through a strengths-based approach addressing Islamic spirituality, struggle, and social justice.
Dr. Pasha's articles have appeared in numerous peer reviewed journals including Ethnicities, Learning Environments Research, Journal of International Women’s Studies, and Psychology Learning and Teaching. She has also presented her research at several international conferences including the International Positive Psychology Association (IPPA) Conference, Religion in Society Conference, National Women’s Studies Association Conference, and the 6th World Conference on Women’s Studies, The International Institute of Knowledge Management (TIIKM). Dr. Pasha is an avid supporter of student research and community-based participatory approaches. She is currently working on an EdD in Higher Education Leadership: Diversity and Equity at the University of Illinois-Urbana Champaign.
