Angela Polite is a Lecturer in the Department of Speech, Communications and Theater Arts. She has served in the department since 2018. Deeply influenced by the work of bell hooks, Angela’s mission is to facilitate transformative experiences in community with students leading to the co-creation of an equitable, inclusive, joyful and rigorous learning environment. In addition to being a social justice educator, Angela is also a professional actress and playwright. She has worked successfully Off-Broadway and on television. As an actor, some of her theater credits include: Classical Theatre of Harlem ( A Christmas Carol in Harlem, Emancipation, Trojan Women), Fire This Time Festival (Exodus, Outcry). Her television credits include guest starring roles on The Wire, Blue Bloods, FBI, GOTHAM, Three Women and East New York.
