Sarah Soanirina Ohmer, Associate Professor of Africana Studies and Latin American and Latino Studies and co-director of the Writing Across the Curriculum program at Lehman College, Dr. Ohmer focuses on Black Feminist approaches to trauma in Black Women’s literature in Cuba, Brazil, US, and Colombia. Her first book, Keloids of Modernity, is forthcoming with U. Illinois Press in 2023. Her interdisciplinary work includes spirituality, critical race theory, and cultural studies. She collaborated in Digital Humanities Audre Lorde Great Read, and served as interpreter for international events such as Black Cuir Revolutions and Radical Poetics. With two U.S. Fulbright Fellowships, she has published articles in the Journal of International Women's Studies, PALARA, Confluencia, InterFACES, Evoke and the Zora Neale Hurston Forum, and co-edited “Solidão” (Women’s Studies Quarterly, Fall 2021). Prior to CUNY, she was Assistant Professor of Modern Languages and Spanish Program Coordinator at the University of Indianapolis.
