Crystal Montalvo joined the College of Staten Island/CUNY (CSI) in 2018, as the Director of the Office of Community Educational Engagement within the Division of Economic Development, Continuing Studies, and Government Relations, after having served in the public school and non-profit sector. As former Executive Director of 30,000 Degrees, a college readiness partnership between CSI, Wagner College, St. John’s University, and local public high schools, Montalvo continues to develop CSI's place-based initiatives, providing navigational support to non-profits and schools seeking to partner with CSI. In her current role, she oversees CUNY’s Continuing Education pre-college ESL and high school equivalency programs, as well as CSI's lifelong learning programs serving the local aging population and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Montalvo is a doctoral CSI’s EdD program in Community-Based Leadership. Her research interests seek to explore the value of critical theoretical frameworks on university-community partnerships at public Hispanic-Serving Institutions.
