Kathleen (Katie) M. Cumiskey is Professor at the College of Staten Island/CUNY (CSI). She is on the doctoral faculty of the Ph.D. in Critical Social/Personality Psychology Program at the Graduate Center and the Ed.D. program in Community-Based Leadership at CSI. Cumiskey is a Dean’s Fellow and the Academic Coordinator of CSI St. George. In this role, she has received over $235,000 in funding from New America to establish intentional learning communities focused on a new interdisciplinary field called Public Interest Technology. She has published on the impact of mobile media on social interaction with a particular focus on how people use mobile media to process grief, loss and traumatic experiences. She has successfully led many service-learning experiences for students and was the first recipient, in 2022, of CSI’s Dolphin Award as an Agent of Change toward Diversity, Equity, Inclusivity and Social Justice.
