Across the United States, racial and ethnic minority groups are at higher risk for poor health outcomes compared to their white counterparts. These health disparities reflect social inequities between different racial and ethnic groups. Through CUNY’s Black, Race, and Ethnic Studies Initiative (BRESI) grant, Drs. Punita Bhansali & Anuradha Srivastava developed internship opportunities for Public Health and Health Sciences A.S. degree students to learn about and promote racial health equity. This presentation will include student and faculty panelists. Faculty will share their approaches for creating student health internship experiences addressing racial health inequities impacting marginalized communities in Queens. Students will share experiences of working with the chosen community health partners, the missions of the organizations, and activities undertaken. The significance and impact of the projects both on the communities and the students’ career trajectories will also be shared.
