Brian Cohen is Executive Director of Beam Center, a Brooklyn-based non-profit that supports young people and their communities to learn, grow and flourish through ambitious collaborative project-making. His childhood obsession with the collective expression and individual inventiveness of Jazz led him to Lighthouse Summer Camp where adults shared their creative practices with youth as collaborators. In 2004, after 20-years as a music business executive, Cohen and friend Danny Kahn co-founded Beam Camp in New Hampshire, where kids and teens build spectacular, large-scale projects designed by world-class artists and architects. The camp’s approach evolved into Beam Center which now serves 7,000+ students annually at camp in New Hampshire, and in NYC through partnerships with 30 public schools, and Apprenticeship and Youth Employment programs.
