Tomas Morando is a young man who communicates using Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) and expresses himself through music, rhythm, and connection with others. He is an active participant at Sheiling College, where he engages in music sessions, community activities, sensory learning, and work-related experiences that highlight his growing confidence and agency. Tomas’s enthusiasm, warmth, and expressive presence shine through in his AAC communication. This is his second appearance at the CUNY Neurodiversity Conference, where he shares his lived experience of communication, belonging, and neurodivergent joy. Ceri Edwards‑Hawthorne is a teacher at Sheiling College UK, a specialist college for neurodivergent young adults aged 19–25. With a background in primary science education (Chemistry) and Religious Education, she has increasingly developed expertise in supporting students with complex communication needs through hands‑on classroom practice. Ceri focuses on creating relational, sensory‑rich learning environments where students can express themselves using their preferred modes of communication, including AAC. She has presented internationally on inclusive practice, including at the Join-In Conference in Salzburg and the CUNY Neurodiversity Conference.
