Sofya Gektin is a PhD student in Psychology at the University of Virginia. Her research focuses on perception, language, and learning in autism, with particular attention to communication and cognition in non-speaking autistic individuals. She works on inclusive, co-designed research projects that aim to improve how cognitive abilities are measured and understood beyond speech-based methods. Her work combines experimental approaches with participatory design to develop tools and frameworks that better reflect diverse communication styles.
