Dr. Gareth Dylan Smith is an assistant professor of music, music education at Boston University. His research interests include drum kit studies, popular music education, punk pedagogies, eudaimonia and hedonia. His first love is to play drums. Gareth recently published A Philosophy of Playing Drum Kit with Cambridge University Press and is producing an album of duets titled Permission Granted. Gareth is founding co-editor of the Journal of Popular Music Education, a former board member of ISME, past president of the Association for Popular Music Education, and on the steering committee for the International Society for the Sociology of Music Education.
