Professor Valdés-Portela is an adjunct lecturer in economics at Hostos Community College. He earned a master’s in economics from the University of Manchester, United Kingdom. His research interests are in development economics and the political economy of higher education with emphasis on critical university studies, specifically on community college reform and the access of Hispanic Americans and Hispanic immigrants to higher education. Professor Valdés-Portela is a co-PI on the HOPE Project.
