Karen R. Flórez is a health equity scholar at the CUNY Graduate School of Public Health and Health Policy. Dr. Flórez has developed a program of research with the broad aim of investigating and identifying gaps in the literature to generate new knowledge for evidence-based interventions to reduce diet and diet-related disparities among vulnerable populations of color, with an emphasis on obesity among Latinos. Her work on the role of personal social networks as conduits for social support, access to resources, social engagement, and social norms that affect diet has appeared in multiple journals including Appetite, Social Science and Medicine—Population Health and American Journal of Community Psychology. This line of work has been funded by NIDDK and NY Regional CDTR.
