This interactive workshop titled “Standing on Business!: Equitably Revolutionizing Self-Care", will explore an inclusive approach to self-care, addressing the academic and nonacademic challenges faced by faculty, staff, and students, proposing actionable steps to foster inclusivity and accessibility within CUNY initiatives. Equitable self-care within higher education involves ensuring that all members of the academic community have equal access to resources, support, and opportunities to prioritize their well-being. Promoting equitable self-care requires a holistic approach that addresses the unique needs and challenges faced by individuals with diverse backgrounds and experiences. Specifically, the facilitators will apply selected tenets of the Orem’s (1971) Self-Care Deficit theory to highlight the importance of fostering a culture that prioritizes self-care and self-advocacy within academic institutions. The overarching goal of the workshop aligns with the 2024 theme, "Educating for Health Equity & Social Justice," and is part of the movement towards a healthier and more just academic community.
