Food insecurity presents a significant public health challenge and a concern of social justice that impact college students. It can have profound impacts on cognitive functions, mental health, academic performance, retention rates and overall well-being. Facilitated by CUNY professors and staff, this panel discussion will address the multifaceted nature of food insecurity among students, examine some of its root causes and ripple effects that it can have on students who are food insecure. Participants will cultivate a deeper understanding of risk factors for food insecurity, challenges faced by students, and subsequent implications. The panelist will promote a guided discussion on students’ access to food pantries on and off campus to supplement their nutrition. They will also discuss traditional food assistance programs and provide alternatives for addressing food insecurity, through a comprehensive approach that integrates community partnerships and educational initiatives.
