Speaker Bio
Maribeth Dunajski was the National Import Specialist for textile fabrics for more than 10 years, after serving over 25 years as United States Customs Import Specialist on the Northern Border with Canada. As a front-line Import Specialist, she handled the importation of all types of commodities, dealing with rates of duty, valuation, country of origin marking, and admissibility into the U.S. She also became familiar with regulatory requirements impacting the admissibility of goods for over 40 other government agencies and served as liaison between agencies and importers.
As National Import Specialist in New York City, Maribeth specialized in the importation of all textile fabrics, interacting with prospective importers and their advisors, writing Binding Ruling letters to establish the proper classification, free trade agreement status, and country of origin, allowing companies to import their goods knowing the fees and requirements for their specific goods prior to importation. She served as national subject matter expert not only for Customs Headquarters in Washington, D.C., for Customs personnel across the nation, and to other U.S. government agencies (such as the Department of Commerce and the US Trade Representative), but also acted as an information resource for customs brokers, advisors, importers, and the general public.
Throughout her career, Maribeth conducted training in importing procedures and Free Trade Agreements internally and to other customs administrations around the world, for importer and trade associations, at trade shows, and to the public. This training was conducted virtually via webinars, as well as in person across the United States and in Canada, Mexico, South and Central America, the Caribbean nations, Asia, the Middle East, and Eastern Europe, conducted in English, French, and Spanish.
Maribeth also served as advisor in the negotiation and writing of several international trade agreements and participated in negotiation and the drafting of numerous forms, instructions, and training materials for their implementation.
Maribeth received her Bachelor of Arts in Russian Language and Soviet Studies from Oberlin College and speaks Spanish, French, and Russian.
