Dean L. Balsamini is currently the Director of the Small Business Development Center at the College of Staten Island (SBDC at CSI) which assists small businesses to successfully start or expand on Staten Island and Brooklyn. He is a native of Bay Ridge, Brooklyn and attended parochial schools in the borough before obtaining a degree from Brooklyn College. Early in his career, he was transferred to Cupertino, California with AT&T and handled west coast purchasing businesses.
Dean is an experienced business professional with over 35 years of management experience in domestic and worldwide markets. He is a former executive of AT&T, where he held key positions in many areas of the business. Upon retiring from AT&T, he later became the Chairman of SCORE on Staten Island for four years, which he left to join the SBDC in August 2005. He has been extensively involved in civic and community activities and is a past President of the South Shore Rotary, a member of the Board of Directors of the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce, and an adjunct professor of Marketing at the College of Staten Island.
Over the past several years, Dean has been honored at many events for his business and community activities including the society of St. Michael at Xaverian High School in Brooklyn, the New York Urban League for Economic Development on Staten Island and the “King of Kings County” award in October of 2014 in Park Slope, Brooklyn. Dean was awarded the Paul Harris award, the highest honor presented by Rotary International, for demonstrating “service above self” in life as well as work.
As an active member of the Staten Island and Brooklyn communities, Dean was appointed by then Judge Fusco to serve on the grievance committee for the New York State Supreme Court’s 2nd and 11th judicial districts dealing with complaints against attorneys. He was selected by the Hon. Vito Fossella as a delegate to the White House Conference on Aging, held in Washington in December 2005.
Dean holds an MBA degree in Marketing from Pace University’s Graduate School of Business, a BBA degree from the City University of New York and an Associate’s degree in Liberal Arts from Brooklyn College. He has also participated in extensive postgraduate and professional development programs at several universities.
