Description

The CUNY Accessibility Conference has invited our local CCSD to a conversation with Disabled Students for Justice club of the University of Arizona to discuss the topic "Nothing About Us Without Us is for Us!"

The overall purpose of this roundtable is to show that disabled student-led organizations on campus can create a community of people who are disabled and non-disabled to come together and collaborate through disability advocacy. These organizations can help students advocate for their access needs and bring awareness of justice issues than marginalized disabled communities experience. Additionally, disabled student organizations give students a chance to voice the ableism witnessed or experienced on campus while providing a community of belonging and safety.

The students of UofA will discuss briefly their club, and then engage with CCSD in a conversation about the ways they have helped students learn advocacy skills, cultivate leadership skills, and push for change to better our college experience; provide a platform for disabled students to collaborate and support each other in voicing our concerns with ableism and access issues on campus; work towards educating non-disabled peers on disability culture and history; and provide a space to navigate individual and collective disabled identities with the goal of promoting disability pride and belonging.
