Speaker Bio
Dr. Evans is Assistant Professor of Disability Studies at CUNY School of Professional Studies. She has worked as a vocational rehabilitation counselor and counselor for students with disabilities in California Community Colleges as well as an academic advisor and program manager at John Jay.
Her research examines trauma, institutionalization, neurodiversity, and the intersectional inequalities implicated in disability and minority identities. She considers narratives and history of “voice-hearers” and those accessing services through peer self-help groups. As a 2021/22 recipient of the CUNY Faculty Fellowship Publication Program, she is working on a novel about disability justice and the intersections of race, class, gender and immigrant status.
