The Importance of Mentors for First Generation College Students

Tuesday, November 15, 2022

6:00 PM - 7:30 PM, Eastern

Research suggests that mentors can play an important role for first generation college students, both within academia and beyond. This talk by Dr. Bonnie Oglensky, Director for the Sociology and Human Relations programs and author of Ambivalence in Mentorship, will focus on the importance of mentors, how to find a mentor, and even some of the downsides, hurdles, and pitfalls to mentor/mentee relationships (and how to navigate these when they occur).

The event will be moderated by Dr. Elizabeth Alsop (Director, Communication & Media Program) and Dr. Carla Marquez-Lewis (Director, Psychology Program) and will include a Q & A session at the end.
