Biology and Disability Studies are strange--if not estranged!--bedfellows. I will share how Disability Studies went from an adversarial to a collaborative relationship with the Department of Biology at Georgetown University. I will show how Disability Studies worked to transform a historically ableist department, infusing it with disability studies materials and disability justice frameworks of thought. Three key elements will be explored: identifying allies and empowering them as change agents, showing beneficial outcomes to students, and creating collaborative and universally designed resources.
